EU wants to invest 1 billion Euro to electronically check travelers

The EU announces the introduction of a new electronic traveler flow management system named “smart borders“. This system shall store the time of entry and exit from non EC countries and will replace the current stamps within the passport. The goal is to effectively prevent people to stay within one country longer than allowed. The system is comparable to the one in US – the green fraction within the EC parliament already talks of a “Big brother” action. Estimated costs of the program are 1 billion Euro.
