Google to sell special head-up display showing information from Google services

According to an announcement in the New York Times Google is currently working on a new Android based head up display to be sold by end of 2012. This information originates from some employees of Google who are familiar with the project but want to stay anonymous. With the new display the continuous reaching into the pocket for the smart phone when specific local information is needed will be obsolete. The glasses will include several sensors including a GPS receiver and a low resolution camera which continuously monitors the surrounding buildings, recognizes them and displays useful information about them to the user. The privacy issue in this connection – the filming of persons – shall be handled as well, however, there is currently no indication how. The glasses shall be closely integrated into existing Google software products like latitude and shall display the information in an augmented reality view rather than a web browser view.
