Different taxes on eBooks generate displeasure amongst publishers

The different tax rates amongst EC states and especially the very low tax rates in France and Luxembourg enable Apple and amazon to offer eBooks cheaper than their competitors.  According to an article within the magazine “Spiegel”  the EC already investigates this tax advantage with the states France and Luxembourg. Currently in Luxembourg a tax rate of 3% has to be paid, in France 7%. For German customers the tax rate where the headquarters of the selling company are located is applicable. There exist even more tax differences amongst the EC states, e.g. in Ireland paper books are sold without any tax, for eBooks someone has to pay 23% extra.
