Saudia Arabia plans to end anonymity on twitter

Saudi Arabia is one of the most regulatory states in connection with Internet censorship. According to Arabian news twitter access shall be forbidden to all besides those who register with a valid official badge such as the passport. This shall prevent citizens to post information about the state which may harm the reputation of the country.

Up to now twitter was in Saudia Arabia a good place to discuss tabu topics such as religious content or topics on the monarchy anonymously. This shall now be prevented. On the pother hand the Saudia Arabian prince Alwaleed bin Talal is one of the most important investors in twitter. Currently there is no official statement from him available on this topic.
