360 degree TV

A new camera, Omnicam360, developed by the researcher Christian Weißig the Heinrich-Hertz-Institut (HHI) in Berlin allows the recording of a 360 degrees panorama. This camera placed e.g. in a soccer field enables the user to play camera man for himself. During a live broadcast the audience may freely select the perspective shown on its smartphone, PC, tablet or TV set. The control is done via a special app over the Internet.

The omnicam360 records with a resolution of 10,000 x 2,000 pixels, which is much more than HD (1920 x 1080). The camera is placed on a tripod and consists of ten mini cameras which record simultaneously. A special mirror system guarantees that there are no distortions.  The system was already tested in some real scenarios, the next one will be the recording of a concert of the Berliner Philharmoniker at a concert in Japan.
