Supermarket without any staff

In Sweden recently a super market (“Näraffär”) was opened which does not have any local staff for ordering or payment. Only for filling the empty shelfs still humans are needed.

In order to shop the customers must install an app on their smart phones where they have to registrate. The  store itself is then opened with the app. Once in customers take whatever they need, the payment is done by scanning the products with the smart phone camera. The accounting is done monthly from the mobile phone bill.

In order to prevent theft the store is equipped with video surveillance and in case the front door remains open longer than 8 seconds the owner is automatically informed via a message.
