In two Austrian pharmacy stores the company Bayer Austria currently tests a system which scans the faces of the customer. Based on the scan the software determines sex and approximate age of the person and proposes drugs.
According to Bayer there are no legal issues in connection with data protection, the software has a ePrivacy certificate. This is because no personal data is stored, the image scan is directly converted to a hash tag and the image is deleted. The software is in use since 22 November and since then there were no complaints by customers.
Face recognition based advertising is not a new idea, but most of the customers do not like it. Recently large advertisements screens were driven by face recognition by means of that based on the faces customized advertisements were displayed.
